Stories become legend, and legends become myth. Many tales have been told of how the world came to be what it is today. Some are purely myth, but several are steeped in fact and history. Below are just a few, with many more that could be added.

The Legend of the Ancients

Aune's first children, who became her destructor. Now they are only known through their summonings, and can only influence the world when asked to do so.

The Ancients knew the laws of physics and the rules of technology which far surpassed what limited machinations are known of today. Through their magical power and scientific prowess, they were able to create items that can only be dreamed of today, and were able to accomplish feats such as traveling to the stars, drilling to the center of the earth, and stopping time. They used the powerful Words of Changing, supposedly the same words that Aune, the First Lady, used to create the world in her image. Their power seemed limitless as they strove for higher and higher goals. Then, came the Sundering. The Ancients had finally stretched to far; they had hoped to remodel Aune as a god who would serve them, instead of the other way around. Words of Changing were uttered in all the lands as the Ancients merged their energies against Aune. Aune, caught unaware and unable to defend herself against these beings that she had created and loved, could only weep as her powers were drained from her. As each of Aune's tears hit Ord, Ancients died by the thousands. It was then that they realized their error; for not only was Aune more powerful than they could ever have hoped to control, but her power was their life blood, and as it was drained, they died. The Ancients stopped their attack, but it was too late; only a scant handful of their race remained, and Aune was quickly expiring. The Ancients gathered together in their Sapphire Palace, where they waited to die.

Aune realized that she had little time left to save the world she had created; even now, magical energies were ripping the lands apart, and stretching and tearing the fabrics of space and time. With most of her remaining energy, she sealed the holes in reality. She then cast out her arms and sent her essence into the remaining sentients of Ord. These races would be the inheritors of Ord and all that was left. Finally, with her last ounce of will and strength, she breathed onto the Ancients' Sapphire Palace. The remaining Ancients were forever locked inside their palace, never to leave, but also never to die. For Aune still loved her Firstborn, and though she realized they had done great evil, and must be punished, she could not bear to see them die.

Then Aune fell from the Heavens, and her body broke into millions of pieces, scattering around the cosmos. Some of her pieces landed on Ord, and infused themselves with the planet, creating powerful points of magical focus, which became the spirit nexuses.

Over the tens of thousands of years since, the other races have built their own empires, and created their own religions and mythologies for why things exist as they do. Very few know the true story. Occasionally, some fantastic object is discovered in some remote ruin, but very rarely is its' given explanation the equal to its' original purpose.
