Ok, so I think Cebegia has been stagnant long enough. The problem is, how do we revive it? This thread is dedicated to discussion potential plans to increase interest.

My first through it to make development more interactive. Taking a page out of WitchHunt's book and using the Aniga model. For those of you who haven't read it, in essance everyone is creating a continent and developing it through time. We could do the same thing with the city states, with a group of people controlling the Empire. Other suggestions are welcome, as are reasons WHY no one is posting here. Also, if you think Cebegia should stay dead, or don't want to participate, please explain why.

For those of us who came in late, what is Cebegia?

That might be part of the problem. I have to run, but the short story is that Cebegia is the community world begun by us here at the CBG awhile back - everything in the Community World Building Project forum is Cebegia.

How about setting it up as a Wiki?

It might help having it in some sort of organized form...

My primary reason for not working on CeBeGia was time constraints, but with the arrival of summer, I now have no limits in that respect.  If others are willing to chip in, I'd greatly like to see the communit world revived.

I oppose a general division of the world, as demonstrated in the Aniga Project.  It will lead to an innate division of the world based on the various writers' personal choices.

I think that some sort of job detail could be useful however.  By aligning people with tasks based upon their talents, we might make more progress.

My primary reason for not helping too much before was that I feared a single person with too much effect on the world would sway it's nature too much to his own liking and alienate others from the project.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing this project revived.

I would like to see Cebegia back on the factory floor. I was reading along when it was active, but stayed quiet. If it becomes active again I'll pitch if needed

I was away doing the RL thing when this project got really going, but I am willing to, like Thing or Igor, lend a hand.

Sounds like a good way to get started here... letting the discussion roll and all.  I've made Xathan the moderator on this forum as well, and if Turin wants to jump back in on it like originally, then he will have mod priviledges here as well.   Here are a few things I'll toss out:

Wiki is probably not going to happen.  At least, not for awhile.  The Wiki plugins for e107 are crappy at best, and down right dangerous (to the database) at worse.  Possibly, if they're ever updated, we'll move to that.

I agree that this shouldn't be an "Aniga-type" project; everyone should have a say in everything, with good, general world-cohesion throughout.  In fact, it may be an interesting idea to try to develop the history of the world (from creation to present) first, and then fill in the heavy details later, just to keep things organized.

Finally, no one should be limited on what they can and cannot work on at a time.  I agree that certain things should be worked on before other things (nations of a continent should come before famous NPCs, in my oh-so-humble opinion), but other than the extreme ones, if someone wants to offer a race, let him offer a race.  If someone wants to develop a spell - or heaven forbid, an entire magic system - let him.  The limitations should be for practical reasons, and they should be few and far between.

Okay, I'm done.  With that said, I'm leaving things in Xathan's hands, and plan on being a contributor here, rather than a leader.

Cheers!

I'm not sure what this means in relation to the Aniga Project. Does it come off as something other than a purely collaborative effort?

Sorry WitchHunt, didn't mean it to come across as any-sort-of-offensive.  I was just referencing Xathan's statement here:

It seems to say that everyone works on their own thing at their own time, and my sentiment is that everyone should collaborate and work on things together, so as the entire world has a cohesive feel to it.  I apologize if I took Xathan's statement too much out of context, since I haven't read most of the Aniga Project at this time.

Well, it does begin as an individual thing that happens all on the same planet, and converges as each race finally develops modes of transportation that allow it to interact with other races far across the sea. I'd say that it is collaborative all the way through. smile No offense taken, I just didn't know what was happening with opinions on Aniga, and figured maybe some people thought I was the "head" of the project since I post so much in it.

Okay, I'm still willing to act as the leader/guider/moderator/editor/whatever of this project, though if Xathan has some really good ideas and wants to take over, that's cool with me too. Like many of the people who were active on this project (especially considering I was leading it) I was (and am) afraid that the project will go too much in one direction (in this case, my direction). Hence, if I keep leading it, I will be JUST leading it. That is, I will only provide ideas and suggestions when the discussion falls flat, rather than getting into deep discussions. So, if you guys start discussing again, I'm ready to guide where necessary and open voting threads and keep the summary up-to-date.

As for where to start, developing history more thoroughly seems like a good idea, though if someone is willing to run a PbP in Cebegia we should be willing to give developing material to support that game first priority.

For those who are confused:
Cebegia is the campaign setting that is being built cooperatively by the CBG community. See this thread (and really this entire subforum) for more information.

I have no intention of taking over from you, Turin - If I do, it would be to hard for me to resist temptation to just dominate the development of Cebegia. I'm going to work mainly as 'concept development' and helping you lead the forums - IE, I'll only get into the hard stuff as needed. If the forum drags, I'll start getting down and dirty and trying to revive it.

I'm glad to see so much interesting in getting this off the ground again. We have some thoughts for and against the Aniga Method, so my basic question is now how do you want to start this back up?

A summary of what has been decided and issues that are still open would help those who weren't here a couple months ago when it all died.

A rough timeline might make writing the history a little easier and should be semi-quick to do. After that we would have a rough idea about the history and can decide what to work on next. Whether it is the full blown history text or working on the current standings of the world for any PbP game.

And for all that, a Wiki might be a good place to put that information. Wikis are fairly self-organizing, and everyone can work on it whenever he is in the mood and see his changes immediately.
