IRC Games

We have had a bit of a reorganization of our IRC resources. Players and especially GMs of IRC games should take note!
The "official" IRC gaming channel of the CBG is now
#thecbg_RP
This is just for playing games. Our casual chat channel remains #thecbg as always.
Isobot is no longer available, but sparkbot will be on hand to provide dice functionality.
A brief command primer for sparkbot:
!roll
- Roll dice. For example,
!roll 2d6
,
!roll d8+2
,
!roll 3d6*(d20+4)
, etc. Pretty much whatever crazy math you want will work.
!init
- Handle initiative. By default, it just displays the list, but by specifying a number, you can set your own initiative.
!init Some NPC,d20
to set the initiative for someone else.
!init reset
clears out the whole list.
!fate
- Rolls FATE dice. By default, rolls 4dF with no modifier. Something like
!fate 3
will roll with a modifier.
!asura
- Rolls Asura dice. I'm probably the only one using this, anyway.
!gs
- Equivalent to !roll except non-positive denominators in fractions become a multiplier -N+2.
If something you need for your game is missing, let me know and I'll try to add it.

This is still on the main channel that isomage runs, correct? It's just a side-sub-channel? Nothing is changing w/r/t the channel we connect to by hitting the IRC button atop the fora?

The chat channel is still #thecbg.
This is simply for a new location for gaming.

Ah, the first post gave me a different idea. Probably because I didn't bother to read the title. I was wondering if there had been a parting of ways with isomage over...well, his ability to be an extreme asshole. (I would not support such an action as I am also part troll and every group of friends usually has that guy that can turn into a raging prick from time to time.)
So this channel will be open with sparkbot at all times now? That's good to know. We'll still run into issues if we ever have more than a single game in a time slot, though.

It was perhaps more an issue of said person being unwilling to sincerely apologize for a mistake made or to at minimum assure me that the mistake wouldn't be made again. No harsh words were said though and he left calmly and maturely of his own will. We'll leave it at that, if anyone wants to know more send me a PM and I'll explain in greater detail what went down.

I'll clarify it.

Yes, we will, but... I'll be happy to have to solve that problem because it means we have the base of players to support that kind of thing.

Ah, so he is gone. That's unfortunate.
Let's see how many weeks of SIG I start out by joining the wrong room.

No, that wasn't the intention.
Isomage's abrupt departure was a bit of a shock, but, since we are already suffering an upheaval, I thought it might be a good time to consolidate down to one "official" RP venue for the site as well. Previously, we had two bots in two different places running games that often had nothing to do with the name of the room. Since we're consolidating down to one bot, I thought consolidating down to one game channel was a good idea as well. Due to issues with global variables and such, sparkbot would have a hard time adjudicating more than one concurrent IRC game at the moment anyway.
Given the number of IRC games that have popped up lately, run by Steerpike, Xathan, Light Dragon, and others (and I'm glad to see such growth!) giving the "official game room" a more setting-netural title seemed like a good idea all around.
My intention was never to leave anyone out in the cold. The fact that I have been making sparkbot more robust and adding commands like !gs to properly handle GS crits should demonstrate this well enough. At the moment, sparkbot is less sophisticated than isobot was, but I am working to ensure that sparkbot's capabilities are as inclusive as possible for whatever people want to play.

I'm lost, that's all I know. I'm fine with trying rooms until I find one with people and don't much care what the name is.
