I have stared into the abyss. I'm scared.
FR is a good setting, but like most kitchen sink settings, it is not the super coherent in terms of overall vision for the world. At the same time, I find it much better than Pathfinder’s setting (which often feels like wholly different campaign settings crudely stitched together to form a continent). I will agree with the sentiment that FR has too many powerful NPCs but much of that bloat was purged by the time skips that happened in 4E and 5E. Still, I do prefer the world as it was in 3rd edition, maybe a bit before that (but that is probably my nostalgia talking).
I would have said yes circa maybe 1990-2005 or so. Now there are just a lot of much cooler settings out there. It's serviceable and detailed and of historical interest but not really inspiring or novel.
It does have the benefit of name recognition. I've used it as a "gateway drug" with people who are familiar with the fiction universe and want to dip their toes into tabletop gaming.  This was back in the 3.5 heyday though.
It's a pretty generic setting without a lot of consistency, and too many DM PCs hanging around. At least, that's how it used to be. Maybe they've changed it?

LoA

Yes sorry. Made two typos at once and overcorrected.
Do you mean worth getting into?

LoA

Is Forgotten Realms getting into?
No worries, Drizztrocks. Most of us were cringey preteens once too. Welcome back smile
Hey guys, its been a minute since ive been on here, i was an obnoxious kid posting on here when i was like 10 through 14 begging for critique on my shitty settings without returning any to anyone else and being incredibly ungrateful when i recieved good feedback. I just wanted to seriously thank this community because you all were incredibly formative in my creative development. I recieved really honest and substantial criticism, which you dont normally get as a young artist held to a low standard. This is my sincere thank you to this site for so gracefully putting up with my cringey preteen behavior.

Nuh-uh. I checked. But seriosly a few years ago I thought a Sidescrolling game done in an old fashioned B&W cartoon aesthetic would be fun.
It won't run on your PC?

LoA

Veering this off on a different topic, Cuphead makes me happy and mad. I had been wishing for an old timey sidescrolling game for years.. But i don't have a device that can run that game.
Made in China, of course grin

LoA

I don't care what you're political leanings are, this is the best thing ever.
Wow
